Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Power has been restored to most parts of Durban and its surrounding areas affected by a major blackout on Tuesday night.

eThekwini Municipality says an explosion at the Klaarwater major substation - before 8 o' clock - plunged around 50% of the city into darkness.
The lights in most areas came back on around two hours later.
The substation's a key supply point to Durban from Eskom.
eThekwini's still trying to figure out the cause of the flashover, which brightened the night sky with green and purple streaks.
Spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela says technicians are working on restoring power to the Shallcross area.
“The city’s technicians are still on site to ensure full restoration of electricity as Shallcross is still affected by the outage.
“The municipality would like to apologise for any inconvenience, we thank our teams for the speed in which they responded with."
