The youngest daughter of IFP founder Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi passed away at the age of 55 in Cape Town on Monday morning.

In a statement, her brother, Prince Ntuthukoyezwe Zuzifa Buthelezi, confirmed that she passed away after a short illness.

"Together with my elder sister, the Honourable Princess Phumzile Nokuphiwa Buthelezi, MPL, Princess Angela, and I were the last remaining children of uMntwana wakwaPhindangene, among eight siblings.

“The loss of Princess Angela, just a year after the passing of our father, is a terrible shock. While her health was not perfect for several years, we did not expect this sudden news," said Zuzifa Buthelezi.

He added that Princess Angela is survived by her only child, Princess Ntando Nkeiruka, who remained by her side throughout her illness.

"Our deepest sympathy is with our niece at this painful time," Zuzifa added.

Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane and National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza also extended their condolences.

Parliament’s spokesperson, Moloto Mothapo, said she served in the sixth administration and returned to Parliament after the May 29 elections, contributing to oversight committees on Human Settlements and Tourism.

Previously, she served on committees related to Cooperative Governance, Traditional Affairs, and Water and Sanitation.

"In these roles, Princess Buthelezi distinguished herself through rigorous oversight and a steadfast commitment to accountability, greatly enhancing the effectiveness of parliamentary processes,” said Mothapo.

“Her voice was a powerful force for positive change, consistently championing the needs of those often overlooked in society, especially in her constituency in KwaZulu-Natal.”

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli added his voice, expressing condolences on behalf of the provincial government and the people of KwaZulu-Natal.

"I wish to convey our deepest condolences to the entire Buthelezi family, particularly Inkosi Zuzifa and Princess Phumzile, the two surviving siblings.

“Our thoughts are also with Princess Ntando Nkeiruka, who now contemplates life without her dear mother."

Ntuli praised Princess Angela for her selflessness and dedication to improving the living conditions of the people, especially women in rural KwaZulu-Natal.

"Princess Angela leaves a legacy that will be emulated by generations to come. We send our prayers to the Buthelezi family and clan at this time of great sadness. May her soul rest in eternal peace."
