Mpondo led a virtual press briefing on Friday morning where he announced the appointment of five key positions at the state-owned entity.

Nosipho Damasane has been appointed as the Chief Executive of Prasa Rail while Hishaam Emeran is the new Chief Executive Officer: PRASA Technical.

Neil Roesch has been appointed to the position of Chief Executive for Autopax, David Mphelo is now the Group Chief Information Officer and Sandile Dlamini will be Group Company Secretary.

Mpondo said the new appointments show that Prasa is on the right track to take back its place in the transport system.

"This is a strong indication that Prasa is on a new trajectory and that it is on track to take its rightful place as the backbone of the public transport system in the country.

"The individuals that will be taking up the positions should be seen as a sign that PRASA does not only seek to stabilise itself but that it also aims to compare favourably with the best in the world.”

Mpondo said any organisation that does not have reliable and stable leadership will not make progress.

"So one of the key objectives of this turnaround - and I daresay any turnaround - is to ensure that you've got the right people at the top.

"Of you don't do that then you destined for failure.

"This for us is the important step in ensuring that you stabilise the management core. You appoint people with the relevant skills."
