Pretoria recycling plant explosion claims two lives

Two people died on Thursday following an explosion at a recycling plant in Akasia in Pretoria North.

Tshwane emergency services reported that two others sustained critical injuries and airlifted to Netcare Milpark Hospital.
One patient with severe injuries was treated and transported to Netcare Akasia Hospital.
Emergency responders arrived at the recycling plant on Toermalyn Street to find that an unknown explosive had caused the blast, but there was no fire.
“Several first responding units, including the South African Police Service, Tshwane Metro Police Department, and various private emergency medical services, were on the scene and assisted with incident management,” said Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Lindsay Mnguni.
The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
