The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) said it has commenced investigations into a major crash in Mpumalanga on Monday morning, in which eleven people died.

RTMC spokesperson, Simon Zwane, says the accident occurred at around 01H00 when a "mini truck" side-swiped a minibus taxi as it took an off-ramp from the N12 onto the R42 towards Delmas.
Zwane says the taxi is apparently a Mozambican registered vehicle that traveled towards Emalahleni, while the truck is believed to have been travelling to Bronkhorstspruit.
"As a result, eight occupants, including the driver from the minibus, lost their lives instantly while six sustained serious injuries.
"In the truck, two passengers lost their lives while 18 people, including the driver, sustained serious injuries.
"All injured occupants have been sent to nearby hospitals," adds Zwane.
The investigation will try to establish the cause of the crash by probing all contributing factors including environmental factors, the roadworthiness of the vehicles and driver behaviour.
Zwane says the RTMC extended its sincere condolences to the families of all the deceased occupants and wishes those who are hospitalised a swift and full recovery.
