Probe into Centurion ground collapse
Updated | By Lebohang Ndashe
The City of Tshwane has launched an investigation after a section of ground collapsed at the intersection of Burger Avenue and Langebrink Road in Lyttelton Manor, Centurion.

A team of specialists has been deployed to assess the extent and cause of the collapse.
The incident has forced road closures in the area, and motorists are advised to steer clear of the affected site.
Alternative routes include:
- Botha Avenue
- Union Avenue
- Cantonment Road
- Station Road
This latest collapse has reignited concerns about Centurion’s vulnerability to sinkholes.
The area, underlain by water-soluble dolomite rock, is prone to ground instability, especially after heavy rainfall.
According to the metro, 58 of the city's 60 documented sinkholes are located in Centurion.
Earlier this year, the City of Tshwane committed to repairing road damage at the End Street, John Vorster Drive, and Rabie Street intersection following severe flooding in December.
City officials say safety remains a top priority as they work to stabilise the area and prevent further incidents.
