ProKid ‘always kept it real’
Updated | By Martine van der Walt Ehlers
Friends and family gathered at the University of Johannesburg’ Soweto campus on Sunday to say a final farewell to hip-hop star Linda 'ProKid' Mkhize.

The 37-year old died after suffering a seizure last week.
Speaking at the funeral service, a very emotional Sandile Mkhize, ProKid's younger brother, broke down on stage.
"Linda has been with me, in my heart, in my mind the whole time - even after his passing.
"I went and found Linda after I got the call. All I could do was tell Linda that I would take over from the visions he had.
"This whole week, all I could do was to make sure that this ceremony becomes a success. I know Linda is smiling.”
During the service, ProKid was hailed as a legend of hip-hop in South Africa.
DJ Sbu says he always managed to “keep it real”.
"The African music industry is thriving overseas because of musicians who are exporting their own sound all over the world, because of being real. And Linda was one of those real artists", the musician said.
Meanwhile music mogul, TK Nciza, lauded Mkhize for paving the way for so many artists.
"In fact, he is the real Soweto Nr. 1 boy, he is the pro, he is the king of hip hop and he gave birth to many of the superstars today.
"So I want you as the family to take pride in that. You must take pride in that, because your kid has really paved the way for many South Africans.”
ProKid will be laid to rest at Johannesburg's Westpark cemetry alongside other renowned musicians including Robbie Malinga and Mandoza.
