Protest on Marlboro Drive dies down as road reopened

Johannesburg Metro Police has confirmed traffic is flowing again on Marlboro Drive following protests in the area.

Disgruntled residents from the Setjwetla Informal Settlement took to the streets on Wednesday night blocking the road with burning tyres and rubble.
The protests, which continued into Thursday morning, stem from unhappiness over prolonged power outages since Sunday.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said officers will remain in the area should there be any further disruptions.
“It is understood that City Power officials are in the area assisting with restoring power” he said.
Fihla added talks between residents and community leaders are reportedly underway.
He urged motorists to exercise caution when travelling in the area.
