A manhunt has been launched for Moyo, who allegedly shot and killed two detectives in Roodepoort on Friday.

At the time of the incident, the two officers were transporting Moyo from the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court back to prison when he disarmed them while driving.

Moyo fled in the police vehicle, which was subsequently found abandoned a few kilometres from the crime scene.

National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola confirmed that “maximum resources”, including crime intelligence, detectives, the Gauteng DPC tracking teams, and the Hawks, have been mobilised to locate the fugitive, who is believed to be armed with a stolen SAPS firearm.

“We can not remain silent. It can not be business as usual when criminals have declared war on members of the South African Police Service,” he said.

“This is why I am making a call once more to members of the police service to say, you have been trained, you know the law, the tools of training that we have given you, which is the firearm, it is meant to protect you. You must use it when you are in danger, or any other life of citizens is in danger.”
