President Cyril Ramaphosa has granted his former deputy David Mabuza a State Funeral Category Two.

Mabuza passed away at the age of 64 on Thursday following a short illness.
He will be laid to rest on Saturday.
Mabuza served as deputy president of the ANC from December 2017 to December 2022 and was previously the premier of Mpumalanga from 2009 to 2018.
In February 2018, Ramaphosa appointed him as deputy president of South Africa and, when re-elected to a full term as president after the 2019 general election, re-appointed him as his deputy.
Ramaphosa also declared a period of national mourning to be observed from Monday, until the evening of Saturday.
Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said Mabuza will be buried in Mpumalanga.
“In terms of the State, Official and Provincial Official Funeral Policy Manual of The Presidency, the State Funeral Category 2 is reserved for the Deputy President of the Republic, an Acting President and Former Deputy Presidents.” said Magwenya.
“The State Funeral Category 2 is conducted with prescribed military ceremonial honours.
“The funeral of former Deputy President Mabuza will take place in Mpumalanga. Closer details will be announced in the coming days.”
