Ramaphosa honours ‘committed’ Dullah Omar

ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa praised anti-apartheid activist Dullah Omar on Wednesday for his contribution to the fight for democracy and the crafting of a new constitution

As part of the party’s 113th birthday celebrations in the Western Cape, ANC officials honoured Omar by laying a wreath.
Omar was the first minister of justice in democratic South Africa in 1994 and later served as transport minister from 1999 until his death in 2004.
Ramaphosa said it was a “joy” to work with Omar.
“He continued to serve the people of our country with dignity, humanity, integrity and complete commitment right until his final days.
“But we also want to thank his family. Aunty Farida stood with him and supported him side by side. She not only supported him but also fought because she is also a heroine of our struggle.”
Ramaphosa added that the visit to Omar’s gravesite was a lesson in commitment and courage.
“So as we celebrate ANC’s founding movement of our people, a movement that is in its renewal phase, a movement that continues to exist after 113 years, a movement that, despite its various setbacks, continues to enjoy the support of our people, in as much as we had a major set back in last year’s elections,” Ramaphosa said.
