Ramaphosa slams AfriForum, Solidarity as unpatriotic

President Cyril Ramaphosa has condemned AfriForum and Solidarity for spreading misinformation about South Africa abroad, calling their actions unpatriotic.

Addressing oral questions in the National Assembly, President Cyril Ramaphosa criticised the organisations for undermining the country’s sovereignty by seeking international intervention instead of resolving issues domestically.
He also suggested the National Prosecuting Authority should look into whether their actions could be considered treasonous.
” I take a dim view, in fact, a very negative view of what has ensued as they run around the world, badmouthing their own country and putting their country into disrepute, not by things that are happening, but by misinformation, dividing our own nation,” the president told MPs.
Earlier this month, the Hawks confirmed that the National Prosecuting Authority is investigating four cases of high treason related to the spreading of false information.
Hawks boss Godfrey Lebeya, who spoke to SABC News, did not mention the organisation being probed by name.
However, he mentioned that the case involves “some individuals who may have crossed borders to spread misinformation”.
The Solidarity Movement, including AfriForum, recently sent a delegation to meet with the Trump administration in Washington.
"Four dockets that have been opened by different people, maybe from different political parties, that concern some individuals that may have crossed the border to go and communicate some of the things that are perceived to be in the direction of high treason.”
