Ramaphosa wants Nkabane to explain conduct in Parliament

President Cyril Ramaphosa has requested A report from Higher Education Minister Nobuhle Nkabane on her conduct during a recent appearance in Parliament.

Nkabane, an ANC MP, appeared before the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education to explain the appointment of board chairs at the Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETA).
The minister was forced to withdraw the appointments following public concerns about the selection process.
Committee members were unhappy with Nkabane's response during the meeting after she refused to disclose the names of advisors who assisted her during the appointment process.
Those initially appointed included the son of cabinet minister Gwede Mantashe, as well as former KwaZulu-Natal premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube, and ANC Johannesburg leader Loyiso Masuku.
"The president has requested that the minister provide him with a detailed report on the decorum and substance of her engagement with Parliament," Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said during a media briefing on Thursday.
"The request for the report is in view of the president’s expectation that ministers, deputy ministers and senior executives in our public sector conduct themselves professionally, transparently and cordially in engaging with Parliament and other accountability institutions.
Ramaphosa also called on the minister to provide a report on the advisory panel of the SETA.
"The president will appreciate a report on the process undertaken to appoint board members to the SETA that were at the centre of the portfolio committee’s questions," Magwenya said.
