Rand Water completes maintenance ahead of schedule

Rand Water has confirmed that the massive maintenance programme that kicked off on Thursday was completed in the early hours of Monday morning.

The work started last Thursday across two sites roughly 10 kilometres apart.
It was aimed at boosting long-term water supply to parts of Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, and several surrounding municipalities, including parts of Mpumalanga.
The project included connecting the new B16 pipeline from Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant to Mapleton’s Engine Room 3.
During the maintenance, key pumping systems at Eikenhof, Palmiet, Mapleton, and Zwartkopjes operated at reduced capacity.
Rand Water spokesperson Makenosi Maroo says the maintenance work was completed 14 hours ahead of schedule.
"We are pleased to inform you that we have completed the tie-in of the B16 pipeline from Zuikerbosch Station 5, and this was completed well ahead of schedule. Rand Water will issue regular updates through its official communication channels and social media platforms."
The water board has urged its customers to use water sparingly to help the system stabilise. Low-lying areas will recover first, while high-lying areas usually take longer.
