Rand Water warns of 86-hour water outage in Gauteng
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Rand Water has warned Gauteng residents of possible water disruptions on Friday due to repair work.

The entity will be carrying out its planned infrastructure maintenance project.
During the maintenance, pumping will be reduced to 70% for 36 hours from 5 am for the repair of B1/B2 pipeline leak at Zuikerbosch, which has affected the Zwartkopjes System.
At the Eikenhof water plant, a flexibility project will be carried out for 86 hours, reducing pumping to 20%.
This comes as Johannesburg Water implemented water throttling measures in an attempt to mitigate the high water consumption.
Spokesperson Makenosi Maroo says the maintenance project is designed to enhance system availability, reliability, and efficiency.
"December is particularly suitable for such work due to the closure of industries and by extension, the temporary depopulation of Gauteng province as residents travel for holidays.
"This timing also allows for quicker system recovery once the maintenance is completed. In accordance with its commitment to transparency and operational excellence, Rand Water issued a 21-day notice to all affected municipal customers and industries," she said.
Moroo adds that the notice is intended to give municipalities adequate time to implement contingency measures to minimise possible disruptions to consumers.
