The maintenance work, which concluded on Monday, lasted for 77 hours.

The work formed part of the utility’s month-long maintenance programme to maintain its infrastructure in Gauteng, North West and Mpumalanga.

City spokesperson Selby Bokaba says various areas experienced water supply interruptions during the maintenance period.

"This compelled the city to dispatch water tankers to the affected areas,” said Bokaba.

"Currently, the city’s entire bulk and distribution systems, which are fed by the Mapleton System, are empty. It is encouraging to note that Rand Water’s team is currently charging their pipelines.

"Once charging has been completed, pumping to the Mapleton System will resume. Residents are urged to exercise patience during the pumping period as the network takes two weeks to recover before it reaches the required pressure fully. Tshwane will continue to provide water to its affected customers through roaming water tankers.”

The water utility will embark on its final maintenance phase on the Palmiet system on Monday.

The maintenance work is expected to last for 40 hours

Pumping will be reduced to 76% during this period.

"The city is pleading once more with residents in the low-lying areas to use water sparingly when the supply is restored, to allow our bulk water system and reservoirs to recover quickly," added Bokaba.
