The remains of Pretoria-based journalist Sibusiso Aserie Ndlovu and his partner Zodwa Precious Mdhluli were discovered on Thursday morning at an advanced stage of decomposition.

The African Media and Communicators Forum (AMCF) and the National Press Club, which have been involved in the search for the two since they disappeared, said the forensic team positively identified the remains and confirmed that Ndlovu and Mdhluli were murdered and dumped in a veld.

Ndlovu and Mdhluli vanished from KwaMlanga in Mpumalanga in February.

Five men have previously been arrested in connection with the couple’s disappearance.

Police say the first suspect is believed to have been the last person seen with the missing couple, while the second, third, and fourth suspects were found with vehicle parts believed to belong to Ndlovu.

Investigators had changed the missing persons case to one of kidnapping and car hijacking.

Speaking in Bloemfontein on Thursday, National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola said the area where the remains were found was pointed out by one of the suspects, who allegedly admitted to leaving the pair there.
