Report labels laundering allegations against Khama, Bridgette Motsepe ‘a fabrication’
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Private investigators hired by South African businesswoman Bridgette Motsepe have labelled the allegations of money-laundering, fraud and aiding of coup attempts in Botswana against her and former head of state Ian Khama as “fabrications”.

Motsepe hired international law firm Omnia strategy and investigation firm Alaco Ltd to look into allegations of money laundering involving at least $10 billion, espionage and the financing of political unrest in Botswana levelled against the pair.
“While the affidavit is authentic a substantial amount of content therein is a fabrication. We feel that the document lacks any credibility and therefore provides no reliable evidence to support the allegations against President Khama and Ambassador Motsepe,” the company’s Gordon Rainey said on Wednesday.
The investigation found that Motsepe is not a signatory to various accounts held across a number of financial institutions, nor is she a signatory in most of the banks named in the affidavit.

“These are fabricated entities. We have carried out corporate record searches in South Africa, there is no evidence of any company currently or historical bearing the names of blue flies and fire flies,” explained Rainey.
“Every South African bank named in this affidavit has resoundedly denied that Ambassador Motsepe is a signatory over any such accounts and that even such accounts exist.”
Motsepe said the allegations tarnished her family name.
“We will not steal any money from anybody. My family, we also contribute to the Bill Gates Billion pledge, it went through the Motsepe Foundation. This has affected the whole family.”
Both Khama and Motsepe plan to take legal action against the Botswana government.
“Personally, I and the other victims of this farce will be instituting the necessary legal action against this regime and elements within it as may be appropriate based on defamation and perjury. Furthermore, it is a clear imperative that we investigate the political motivation of the affidavit,” said Khama.
