Right-wing leader sentenced to two life terms

A convicted terrorist and leader of a right-wing group called the National Christian Resistance Movement (NCRM) has been sentenced to life terms plus 21 years.

Sixty-three-year-old Harry Knoesen was sentenced on Tuesday in the Middelburg High Court.
Hawks’ spokesperson Thandi Mbambo said he was found guilty of planning to indiscriminately kill black people and attempting to overthrow the country's democratic government
“The accused prepared and planned to carry out terrorist attacks on government by overthrowing the democratically elected government, targeting the national key points, attacking the military and police installations as well as informal settlements occupied by African people.
“Knoesen is sentenced to life imprisonment for contravening the Protection of Constitutional Democracy Against Terrorism and Related Matters Act for incitement to carry out terrorist attacks in South Africa.
“Fifteen years for recruiting people to carry out terrorist attacks and three years’ imprisonment for each count of unlawful possession of firearms as well as unlawful possession of ammunition.”
