RTMC board suspends CEO Makhosini Msibi

The CEO of the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has been placed on precautionary suspension amid allegations of financial misconduct.

The RTMC board decided to suspend Advocate Makhosini Msibi for a period of 30-days, extendable to 60 days, during a meeting last month.
In its letter to Deputy Minister of Transport Mkhuleko Hlengwa, the RTMC board said the move was informed by whistleblowing allegations of financial misconduct, irregular expenditure and governance failures at the entity.
The suspension became effective from the first of this month.
“Based on the seriousness of the allegations, the Board has decided to institute a forensic investigation into these allegations. The board has also advised the ministry of the appointment of Refilwe Mongale as an interim,” said Transport spokesperson Collen Msibi.
Msibi’s suspension comes weeks after a similar decision was taken at another transport entity, the Road Accident Fund (RAF).
RAF CEO Collins Letsoalo was placed on precautionary suspension by the board, amid allegations of irregular procurement.
The Special Investigating Unit, the fund following the whistleblower, claims that Letsoalo overturned the internal bid committee decisions to award a R79 million lease contract to Mowana Properties.
Letsoalo lost his court case to have his suspension set aside in the High Court in Pretoria last month.
