SA new Covid-19 cases drop below 1,000 mark

South Africa has seen a drop in new Covid-19 cases – falling to below the 1 000 mark in the 24 hours up to Monday evening.

According to the latest stats by Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize, the country has recorded 897 new cases.
This brings the country’s total cases to 1 584 961.
Mkhize says a further 35 new Covid-19 related deaths have been confimred.
Limpopo and North West recorded zero deaths.
Mpumalanga and Western Cape have 1 new fatality each.
The Eastern and Northern Cape provinces recorded 2 new related deaths each, the Free State 6, Gauteng 7 and KwaZulu-Natal 16 fatalities.
The country’s death toll now stands at 54 452 deaths.
“We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased patients,” says Mkhize.
So far, 329 098 Health Care Workers have been vaccinated under the Sisonke Protocol.
About 10 715 773 citizens have tested for Covid-19, of these - 16 752 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.
The country’s recoveries now stand at 1 508 558, representing 95%.
