SA sees further decline in Covid-19 hospital admissions
There has been another slight decline in the number of Covid-19 admissions reported in South African hospitals in the latest 24 hours.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) reported just 198 new hospital admissions, with 7 363 people currently admitted in both private and public healthcare facilities across the country.
The NICD further reports there were 3 658 new Covid-19 cases identified in South Africa on Tuesday.
A total of 39 654 tests were conducted in the latest 24-hour cycle period, relating to a 9.2% positivity rate.
Gauteng has reported the highest number of cases with 814 infections recorded on Tuesday, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 794 new infections.
“The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng Province and KwaZulu-Natal (22% each), followed by Western Cape (20%). Eastern Cape accounted for 9%; Limpopo accounted for 8%; North West accounted for 6%; Free State and Mpumalanga each accounted for 5% respectively; and Northern Cape accounted for 2% of today’s new cases,” said the NICD in a statement.
The National Department of Health still has a backlog of Covid-19 mortality cases reported.
This is due to the ongoing audit exercise.
The department reported 100 Covid-19 related deaths, with 30 confirmed in the past 24 – 48 hours.
This brings the total fatalities to 93 551.
On the vaccine front, 85 885 vaccines were administered on Tuesday.
