SA vaccinating 6 500 healthcare workers a day

South Africa resumed its inoculations against Covid-19 on Wednesday and managed to vaccinate an average of 6 500 healthcare workers a day.

Government hopes to vaccinate at least 300 000 people a week by mid-May.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize released the latest coronavirus statistics on Friday evening.
A total of 317 656 healthcare workers have been vaccinated under the Sisonke Protocol.

When the study resumed on Wednesday, 298 153 healthcare workers received their Johnson & Johnson jab.
Therefore, 19 503 people in South African were vaccinated over three days.
Meanwhile, 19 more coronavirus related deaths were reported in the latest reporting period.
This brings the country's total death toll since March last year, to 54 350.
A total of 1 674 new cases had also been confirmed during the 24-hour cycle.
