SAA activates emergency response to Ethiopian crash

The South African Airways (SAA) has conveyed its condolences to the people of the Ethiopian Airlines following a tragic accident which killed all the passengers and crew on board.

On Sunday morning, the Boeing 737 crashed while en route from the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to Nairobi Kenya.
All 149 passengers from 35 countries, as well as 8 crew members on board, lost their lives.
SAA spokesperson Tlali Tlali said the South African airline is ready to provide assistance to the Ethiopian airlines in any way possible.

"On Sunday, SAA activated its emergency response processes at the Nairobi office in order to lend support to the Ethiopian airline
following the tragic accident that took place.
"We are a Pan-African airline and to us under these circumstances, we must show empathy and give support to a fellow African carrier in their time of need. Their pain is our pain," Tlali added.
Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa has also sent his heartfelt condolences to the affected families who lost their loved ones in the tragedy.
The President's spokesperson, Khusela Diko, says the South African diplomatic missions in Ethiopia and Kenya have been directed to work with the airline and ascertain whether there was any South Africans traveling on board.
