Sabotage could be behind Robertsham substation blaze - Moerane
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phaleatsile
Johannesburg Mayor Mpho Moerane believes
there is a possibility the fire at the Robertsham substation was the result of
an act of sabotage.

Moerane inspected the substation in the south of the city on Tuesday morning after an explosion late on Monday night.
Two transformers went up in flames, plunging at least six suburbs into darkness.
Aeroton , Evans Park, The Hill, Ormonde, Robertsham and surrounding areas are without electricity.
“We are not concluding that there is sabotage, we are saying that there is suspicion that there is sabotage. The report will be available at 12pm,” Moerane said.
“There is someone who stays here at night, he heard a bang of a door before the explosion. We suspect there might be someone who got in and out.”

The substation has four transformers and two were affected.
City Power says it will take Tuesday to clean up and repair and power will likely be restored on Wednesday.
Moerane said the city will be deploying security to different substations ahead of the elections, as it is the season of sabotage as South Africans prepare to head to the polls.
