The PEC was disbanded on Thursday night by a special sitting of the African National Congress’ (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC).

It has been replaced by a provincial task team.

SACP provincial secretary Madoda Sambatha says the party welcomes the decision by the NEC.

He adds that it is the second time in the last ten years that the ANC saw it fit to disband the PEC in the province.

"What is critical is the program to rebuild the organisation going forward," says Sambatha.

He says no one should celebrate ANC's internal battles.

President Cyril Ramaphosa put the province under administration following reports of maladministration in the area.

Former North West embattled premier Supra Mahumapelo was the chairperson of both the PEC and ANC in the province.

"When the PEC is dissolved it doesn't mean that the chairperson of the ANC is removed. The only issue we have is when people want to make Supra the ANC."
