SAHRC: Various options open in Etzebeth case

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) will formally institute legal proceedings against Springbok rugby player Eben Etzebeth at the Equality Court on Friday.

The Springbok lock is accused of assaulting and racially abusing a homeless man in Langebaan in August.
He has denied the claims.
The SAHRC’s Gauteng manager Buang Jones says there are various options open to the commission as it plots its legal strategy.

“We would like to dismiss any allegations that the commission is either biased or acting in pursuit of an agenda.”
SA Rugby has instituted an internal probe into the allegations faced by Etzebeth, who is currently in Japan for the Rugby World Cup.
