SAHRC welcomes Gouws’ apology in racial harm complaint
Updated | By Bulletin / Jacaranda FM
The South African Human Rights Commission has welcomed an unconditional public apology issued by former DA MP Renaldo Gouws.

The video resurfaced last year, days after he was sworn in as a Member of Parliament for the Democratic Alliance.
The commission’s Wisani Baloyi said the matter was resolved through the commission’s alternative dispute resolution process, with Gouws acknowledging the harm caused and committing to participate in SAHRC-led workshops and sensitisation sessions:
Baloyi said Gouws approached them in March with a request for mediation.
"The commission welcomes Mr Gouws’ acknowledgement of the impact of his past conduct and the idea that the right to freedom of expression must be exercised in a manner that respects equality and dignity for all people," said Baloyi.
"As part of this settlement, Mr Gouws will participate in two sessions convened by the SAHRC, which will consist of a workshop and public education."
