The South African Municipal Workers Union is locked in a wage dispute with the city’s leadership.

Nationally, the trade union is demanding an 8% wage increase, including an R15,000 minimum wage, 70% medical aid contributions by the employer and an R3,000 a month housing allowance.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said Samwu members have threatened to close the roads if their demands are not met.

"We would like to inform motorists about the potential closure of roads in the Braamfontein precinct.

"Law enforcement officials are present on the ground to address any potential road closures and to ensure the safety and security of residents.

"We urge motorists to exercise caution when travelling on the mentioned routes and to seek alternative routes if faced with closures.”
