The South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) has warned Tshwane that it will “take over the city” should it fail to convene a successful council sitting by the end of February.

Samwu regional secretary Mpho Tladinyane made the comments outside Tshwane House, where the union handed over a memorandum of demands to the city.

The union marched to Tshwane House on Friday in protest against what it believes to be poor governance in the city.

"Council has until the end of February 2020 to get its house in order," said Ntladinyane.

There seems to be no end in sight in the battle to govern the City of Tshwane.

African National Congress (ANC) has brought several motions of no confidence against Mayor Stevens Mokgalapa since last year, but none have been successful.

Mokgalapa has indicated that he would be resigning as mayor at the end of February.

The African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng will now meet with the party’s Tshwane’s leadership on Sunday to discuss the city’s fate.
