The South African National Defence Force has confirmed that a soldier has been trampled to death by elephants in Madimbo, Limpopo.

The South African National Defence Force has confirmed that a soldier has been trampled to death by elephants in Madimbo, Limpopo.
The body of Private Xavier Raynard, a member of the 10 Anti-Air Regiment of the South African Army, was found near the Yellow Gate of the Madimbo Operational Base on Sunday.
The South African National Defence Force said preliminary investigations suggest that the soldier may have been trampled by a herd of elephants while patrolling the area.
In a statement on Wednesday, the SANDF said his service weapon was recovered at the scene.
"The matter is currently under investigation by SANDF in cooperation with environmental and wildlife officials to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. A formal Board of Inquiry has been initiated."
Earlier this month, the CEO of the Gondwana Game Reserve was also killed by an elephant in Mossel Bay.
Last year, a Spanish tourist died after being trampled to death by an elephant at the Pilanesberg National Park.
