Tshoaeli, also known as Tiger, was arrested in January after emerging from an unused shaft at the Stilfontein mine in North West.

However, he was never booked in at the local police cells.

"As soon as it came to our attention that Thsoaeli was missing, National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola directed Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West Patrick Asaneng to assemble a team of seasoned detectives to investigate the matter," said SAPS spokesperson Athlenda Mathe on Sunday.

"So far, four of our own have been arrested and investigations continue. Let’s not jump to conclusions and speculate.

"Let’s allow the investigation to tell us what exactly happened. Our focus now is where is Tiger, and wherever he was taken to, he must be found.

"With our own arrested, we are hopeful we will get to the truth of what really happened.

"This matter is before court and no further comment will be provided at this stage."
