The incidents, which took place in October and November, have sparked discussions on social media, with calls for justice for the victims.

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu’s spokesperson Kamogelo Mogotsi said that the ministry is aware of the public’s concerns.

“The ministry wishes to assure the public that law enforcement is actively investigating both matters,” she added.

In the first case, a minor referred to as “Alu”, was raped, with the suspect identified as “Siphesihle.”

The suspect was arrested and appeared in court last November.

A DNA report is currently being prepared and will be submitted to the Senior State Prosecutor for further action once completed.

The second case involves a minor (known as CweCwe) from Bergview College in the Eastern Cape, who was also raped, with three individuals, including the school principal, identified as suspects.

According to police ministry, the Investigating Officer has collected all necessary statements, and DNA tests have been carried out.

The Senior State Prosecutor will be consulted in the coming week, after which the family will receive an update on the situation.

In an interview on the Hope Revolution Podcast, the victim’s mother expressed frustration over the school's failure to investigate the incident and identify her child's rapist.

She, who is allegedly a rape survivor herself, shared painful details about how the school provided the family with a transfer letter, even though the parents did not request a transfer for their child.

Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube acknowledged the incident on Friday and noted that she had spent 48 hours in communication with the provincial department to gather information on the case and understand the department's future actions.

Gwarube mentioned that Eastern Cape Education MEC Fundile Gade assured her he is taking steps to address the issue and will keep her informed.

Mogotsi reiterated that the investigations are being treated with the utmost seriousness and priority to ensure justice is served, and those responsible are held accountable.

“While the ministry acknowledges the public's desire for swift action, it is crucial to allow investigations to follow due process to ensure fairness, thoroughness, and justice,” she added.
