SAPS trainer arrested for the alleged rape of trainee

A South African Police Service (SAPS) trainer has been arrested following allegations of the rape of a trainee at the SAPS Training Academy in Tshwane.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday and led to the immediate dismissal and arrest of the suspect.
He is expected to appear in court on Friday.
The Ministry of Police has strongly condemned the alleged crime.
"We welcome the swift removal and subsequent arrest of the instructor. This alleged act is not only criminal in nature, but it is a disgraceful abuse of authority, and a gross violation of the trust placed in those who are meant to shape and guide the next generation of police officers,” said Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
The minister emphasized the severity of the act, particularly against someone committed to national service.
"To prey on a young recruit who has chosen to serve the nation through the SAPS is both reprehensible and inexcusable. It undermines the integrity of the police service and the tireless work of the thousands of officers who serve with honour every day,” he stated.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has taken over the case and is under instruction to ensure a thorough and uncompromising investigation.
“We call for swift internal processes to be followed. The perpetrator must be brought to book, and let it be a clear and resounding message — no one is above the law,” Mchunu added.
The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) has confirmed that the victim is receiving appropriate medical attention and ongoing psychological support.
