SA’s zebra-inspired Olympic shirts, vellies met with mixed reaction back home
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The clothes worn by Team South Africa at the Olympic Games opening ceremony in Tokyo was received with decidedly mixed emotions back home.

South Africa walked onto the world stage in Tokyo wearing zebra striped shirts, while their feet were adorned with locally made veldskoen shoes.
However, the country’s official uniform for the Olympics was received with ambivalence from social media users.
Some on social media questioned the transformation of the Olympic team, while others wanted to know if the Zebra is now the country’s official animal.
