SASSA to engage double-pay beneficiaries, says problem now resolved
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) says it will engage with grant beneficiaries who accidently received double payment on Monday.

Some beneficiaries in the Western Cape received overpayment while a small number of pensioners and parents received no money at all.
SASSA has blamed the error on technical glitches, understaffing and the pressure of also having to pay the Covid-19 relief grant top-up payment.
In KwaZulu Natal alone, the glitches affected some 450 000 old-age grant recipients.
As a result, the organisation says the South African Post Office will be doing manual payments as a short-term measure to minimise the impact of the problem.
SASSA spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi says additional top-ups exacerbated the technical glitches.
"There are some top-ups which were made this month and also to separate the file of the caregiver together with of the child who is getting the grant, we think something might have happened.”
Letsatsi says they will engage the affected beneficiaries.
"SASSA will enter into an agreement with affected beneficiaries to arrive at an amicable solution. The solution that must be arrived at must not put either side in a bad light, but we will engage the beneficiaries in the Western Cape.”
He adds that the problems were resolved on Monday afternoon.
