SAWS issues severe weather alert for Gauteng, NW, Limpopo

The South African Weather Service has issued a severe weather warning of heavy rains in Gauteng, North West and Limpopo, with flooding risks.

A forecaster from the weather service, Samkelisiwe Thwala says they have issued a yellow level two warning with possible damage to infrastructure in Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo due to the severe thunderstorms.
“SomE, the first warning that we have is a yellow level two for severe thunderstorms, this is expected over the North of KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and the Southwestern parts of Limpopo.”
Thwala adds that parts of the Eastern Cape are currently facing a heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 37 degrees Celsius in some areas.
She says the heatwave is expected to persist until Saturday.
