SCA grants Jason Rohde bail pending appeal

Former property mogul Jason Rohde has been granted bail pending the outcome of his appeal.

The judgment was handed down in the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein on Wednesday.
Rohde is appealling his conviction and 20-year sentence for murder.
The former property mogul was found guilty of the 2016 murder of his wife Susan Rohde, and defeating the ends of justice for tampering with the evidence in an attempt to make it look like a suicide.
Her body was found with an electronic cord wrapped around her neck. The cord had been tied to a hook on the back of the bathroom door.
He was sentenced to 18 years for murder and five years for defeating the ends of justice in the Western Cape High Court, three of which will run concurrently.
Handing down the judgement, Justice Mandisa Maya released Rohde on very strict bail conditions and is expected to report to the Plettenberg Bay police station within 48 hours.
"The applicant released on bail is subject to the following conditions a) The payment of R200 000 in terms of section 60 (13) an of the criminal procedure act b) the furnishing of a guarantee in the amount of R1 million to the registrar of the Western Cape High Court."
"The applicant is prohibited from applying for any passport. This order must be made available to the South African department of home affairs as well as the British and Australian embassies in South Africa."
