SCA grants Zwelithini's first wife permission to appeal king’s will

The Supreme Court of Appeal has granted the late Amazulu King Goodwill Zwelithini's first wife, Queen Sibongile Dlamini-Zulu, and her two daughters permission to appeal a court rulling which dismissed their challenge of the king's will.

The king's first wife approached Pietermaritzburg High Court to demand 50% of the king's estate but her application was dismissed.
The late King Goodwill Zwelithini died in March last year at age 72 after 50 years on the throne, leaving behind his six wives and at least 28 children.
His passing was followed by court battles over the succession of the throne and his estate.
The latest court ruling comes as the royal family is preparing for the ancestry ritual, where Prince Misuzulu kaZwelithini will be entering the kraal before he is officially installed to the throne.
Misuzulu was cleared by the High Court in Pietermaritzburg to be crowned the next Zulu king.
The government has also recognised Prince Misuzulu as the next Zulu king.
However, the family battle continues as another faction has since announced Buzabazi ka Zwelithini as their chosen candidate to ascend the throne.
He is the third candidate appointed to ascend the throne after Prince Simakade ka Zwelinthini entered the kraal a week ago.
In a judgment delivered on Friday, the SCA granted the wife, and her daughters leave to appeal.
"Condonation as applied for is granted.
The applicant for the condonation is to pay the cost of the application. Leave to appeal is granted to the Supreme Court of Appeal. The costs order of the court a quo in dismissing the application for leave to appeal is set aside and the costs of the application for leave to appeal in this court and the court a quo are costs in the appeal. If the applicant does not proceed with the appeal, the applicant is to pay these costs,” ruled the SCA.
