Security guard shoots himself inside Hillbrow police station

Gauteng police are investigating the death of man who allegedly shot himself inside the Hillbrow police station.

According to police spokesperson Mavela Masondo the man entered the cop shop and informed the police that he is being followed by people who want to kill him.
"Police have opened an inquest docket for investigation after a member of the community allegedly shot himself inside the Client Service Centre at Hillbrow Police Station on Wednesday.
"It is reported that the deceased entered the police station and informed the police officers that he can see and hear people chasing after him. The man suddenly pulled out a firearm from his holster and shot himself on the upper body.
"Police officers and members of the community who witnessed the shooting are receiving counselling and the police station is fully functional."
The 52-year-old man was certified dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the firearm is licensed to the man and that he was working as a security guard at one of the shops in Hillbrow.
