Seven arrested in Pretoria for SASSA card fraud

The metro police in Tshwane have arrested seven suspects in connection with social grant fraud.

The seven were arrested on Wednesday for alleged fraud of more than R190 000. 

 

Metro police spokesperson Isaac Mahamba says two of the suspects were nabbed at Kolonade Shopping Centre, north of Pretoria. 

 

"They were searching various people at ATMs, upon searching two of the suspects, 13 SASSA cards and cash over R32 000 was found in their possession. They were then arrested for SASSA card fraud after failing to account for the cards and money.”

Another five suspects were subsequently arrested at the same shopping centre.

 

"One male and female were found in possession of 61 SASSA cards and over R110 000 in cash which they could not account for," adds Mahamba.
