Seven suspects nabbed in attempted cash-in-transit heist

Police in Johannesburg have arrested seven suspects in connection with an attempted to cash in transit heist in Lombardy East.

Police spokesperson Mathapelo Peters says officers pursued the suspects, who allegedly stole an undisclosed amount of money from an unmarked vehicle belonging to a private cash-in-transit company.
A shoot-out then ensued between police, security personnel and the suspects.
Two victims were shot and injured during the shoot-out.

"One being a security officer and the other a female bystander. Both victims have been taken to hospital for medical attention.”
Police seized five firearms, ammunition and four vehicles.
"A Mercedes-Benz was also recovered and it is believed to have been used in the commission of the robbery,” Peters says.
The investigation will be handed over to the Hawks.
