Shivambu booted as MKP SG over Bushiri visit

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party has removed Floyd Shivambu as its secretary general following his controversial trip to Pastor Shepherd Bushiri's church in Malawi.

Shivambu visited Bushiri's Enlightened Christian Gathering church in Malawi over the Easter weekend.
The party said the trip was not officially sanctioned, which goes against the constitution of the party.
Bushiri and his wife are currently wanted in South Africa after they fled in 2020 while out on bail.
They face multiple charges, including fraud, money laundering, rape, and breaching immigration laws.
Nathi Nhleko, the party's national organiser, read a statement on behalf of MKP leader Jacob Zuma on Tuesday.
"After lengthy discussions and considerable inputs from the national officials, it was concluded that the actions by the secretary general were found to be against the spirit and the prescripts of the MK Party constitution,” Nhleko said.
"Due to the serious nature of this matter and its implications for the party, its image, values and principles, the president and the national officials were left with no other option but to act swiftly in addressing this matter."
Shivambu will be now be redeployed to Parliament, a familiar place where he served as a member of the EFF.
"The national officials have come to a decision to redeploy Shivambu to the National Assembly. We believe that his redeployment will strengthen the MK Party caucus as the official opposition,” Nhleko added.
