Updated | By Lindiwe Mpanza
The Victims of Crime report released by Statistics South Africa on Thursday has revealed that the reported cases of sexual offences in 2018/19 increased to 88%.

This is up from the 73% recorded in the 2017/18.
The Stats SA survey also found that there were about 70 000 incidences of deliberate damage to residential property and arson. Female-headed homes in metropolitan areas were the most likely to be victims of the crime.
The Western Cape recorded the highest percentage of people aged 16 and above who were victims of street robbery, with knives and guns used as weapons.
Almost 50% of assaults were committed by persons known to the victim. Tune in to @SABCTVNews at 15:20 as @SGMaluleke takes a closer look at the figures.
