Six suspected robbers killed in police shootout in Germiston

Six suspected robbers were shot and killed during a shootout with police in Germiston on Saturday.

Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale said a unit was deployed to the Germiston CBD area after police received information that an armed robbery was set to take place.
"As the members approached the area, a lookout was received for an armed robbery at the Top Bets where G4S was robbed,” said Mogale.
"Members started looking for the suspects' vehicle and spotted it driving recklessly. Members attempted to stop the suspects, and they immediately started shooting at the members.
"Members returned fire, and the suspects' vehicle lost control, thus crashing into a pole.
"Six suspects were fatally wounded, and another suspect is in a serious condition. An AK47 rifle, four handguns, and the cash trolley have been recovered.”
Mogale says the vehicle used by the suspects was in Brooklyn, Pretoria.
The shootout follows a similar incident in Ekhurhuleni on Saturday, where two suspected robbers were killed.
