Solidarity to serve legal papers on Dis-Chem following memo on hiring of whites

Solidarity is planning to serve legal papers on Dis-Chem following a leaked internal memo on the hiring and promotion of white people.

The union says the pharmaceutical giant missed a deadline to indicate whether it had withdrawn its ban on employing and promoting white people.
The internal memo, which had gone viral on social media, was informing senior management of a moratorium on hiring white people to reach the company’s transformation targets.
This led to a fierce debate on affirmative action and employment equity, with some threatening to boycott the retailer.
Dis-Chem issued a statement last week, regretting the “offense and distress it caused to so many people”.
The nationwide retailer stopped sort of withdrawing the letter but added that “we apologise for the erroneous communication”.
Dis-Chem continued: “We stand by the unequivocal imperative to continue our transformation journey.”
Solidarity wrote to Dis-Chem on Tuesday, requesting a confirmation that the racial policy had been withdrawn.
The union’s Anton van der Bijl says Dis-Chem missed the deadline.
"Solidarity will finalize their legal pleadings against Dis-chem this week. This follows after Dis-chem did not withdraw their mortarium on the appointment of white persons on Friday last week. We see the action of Dis-chem as stately inexcusable, and we will continue with the fight against Dis-chem."
