Soweto Parliament concludes its first sitting

The Soweto Parliament is a community leadership structure that seeks to hold local government accountable.

The parliament is focused on cementing a partnership with the police to uproot crime and fight the scourge of Gender Based Violence , among other things in the community.
Soweto Parliament president Nhlanhla Lux Mohlauli says the parliament is new technology not wanting to be diluted by politics.
"We would be reducing our power if we converted into politics because we have got more power than politics right now, so why would I want to then be part of a process that dilutes our power.
"We would rather work with the government of the day than to compete with the government of the day.
"We are good at what we do, and what we do has not been done before, so we are the new technology why would I want to go back to analogue.
"There are a lot of factions in this ward as well,” added Mohlauli.
