Soweto taxi associations should apologise to the community: Taxi Alliance
Updated | By Lindiwe Mpanza
The National Taxi Alliance (NTA) says the Witwatersrand Taxi Association (Wata) and Nancefield-Dube West Taxi Association (Nanduwe) should apologise to community members in Soweto on Monday.

NTA spokesperson, Theo Malele says the alliance together with the taxi associations will be having a follow-up meeting with the communities of Soweto, where the rival associations will be given an opportunity to apologise.
This follows a meeting by the NTA with Gauteng premier, David Makhura, and the province’s MEC of Transport, Ismail Vadi, on Friday to formulate an agreement operational plan between the two opposing associations.
Vadi closed down a number of taxi ranks in Soweto last week following escalating violence between the taxi associations who were fighting over routes.
"Saturday morning we met with both taxi associations and explained the contextual aspect of the agreement and made them understand it clearly,” says Malele, “thus both association members are fully briefed on the agreement the executives reached."
