SSA warns members against leaking sensitive information

The acting director-general at the State Security Agency (SSA), Gab Msimanga, has warned staff against leaking sensitive information about the internal workings of the agency.

Msimanga’s remarks follow a meeting by senior management to discuss leaks emanating from the SSA.
"In an internal memo to all staff, Msimanga reminded members that the distribution of classified information and unauthorised sharing of classified documents violated the provisions of legislation governing intelligence services," says SSA spokesperson Mava Scott.
"He said members who are found guilty of violating these legislative provisions would be liable to a fine of R10 000 or ten years' imprisonment or both such fine and imprisonment.
"Investigations are currently underway into members responsible for leaking sensitive and classified information.
"On completion of the investigations, those found to be behind the leaks will be appropriately sanctioned.
The SSA is concerned that some of the leaked information is false and aimed at “deliberately causing confusion and anarchy”.
"We have already identified potential culprits who are spreading wrong and damaging rumours about the credibility and competence of some of our members within the agency," says Scott.
"We are following them up and we will act against them."
