Substation explosion causes outage in Centurion, PTA East
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
Several parts of Centurion and Pretoria East were without power on Tuesday due to an explosion at the Zwartkop substation in the early morning hours.

The explosion tripped the Lyttelton Line 1 at Njala, affecting Wingate, Aries and De Hoewes substations.
The city’s spokesperson, Selby Bokaba, said the Emergency Services Department was dispatched to the scene and managed to extinguish the blaze.
“A team of technicians from the Energy and Electricity Department was also dispatched to the scene, and has so far managed to expeditiously energise Wingate, Aries and De Hoewes substations.
“The team is currently assessing the extent of the damage at the 1A Zwartkop substation explosion site as part of the preparations to effect repairs. The substation will remain off until the repair work has been completed.”
Bokaba said technicians will remain on-site until the power supply is restored to the affected areas.
“The estimated time for restoration will be communicated once the bulk of the repair work has been completed.
“The city apologises to the affected residents for the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen occurrence.”
